What About A Good Word?

islam, good word, speak well, Quran quote

No words can describe the beauty of the above Verse (Chapter 14, Verse 24) in the Quran. The Verses 25 and 26 follow, illustrating the comparison in further detail,

“Have you not considered how Allah presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky? It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allah presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded. And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability.”

This Verse has a powerful message to the whole of humanity. Communication is normal to all and saying a good kind word to fellow human beings, in the politest and best of ways is like a strong and firm tree, that will continue to produce the best of fruits the whole year long!

It is easy to understand the context of a “good tree” from the Verse: a good tree is firmly settled in the ground, its branches are vastly scattered providing shade to people and shelter to birds and insects and it remains fruitful all year long!

Now when you say a good, kind word to someone, what happens? The other person you are saying it to, the listener, will definitely feel sheltered and protected underneath the shade of those words. They will feel contented with your saying for always… those very words remain in their heart as firmly as ever… placing a position there for always.

Its time we reflected upon our said words. So many times in our lives, we may have scolded angrily or backbit-ed uselessly or complained aimlessly, with no regards to the above Verse that compares a bad word to an in stable tree, something that produces a bitter fruit and is totally worthless!
