The book Nanni’s Hijab, written by Khadija Abdul-Haqq and published by Djarabi Kitabs Publishing, is a vibrantly illustrated and attractive book with a simple yet fascinating storyline.
The story revolves around a young Muslim girl Nanni who is really fond of wearing colourful hijabs each day long. She wears a hijab in school, at home and everywhere she goes and her friends just love her hijab. Even her teacher praises her choice and tells her how beautiful she looks in it!
There’s one of her classmates Leslie, though who acts as a bully, is jealous of her and confronts her. She humiliates her in front of their classmates but Nanni remains calm and patient and thinks of a way to handle this situation. The best part of the entire story is obviously the way Nanni deals with Leslie and how she make her her friend in the end.

The way the writer describes how fond Nanni was of wearing beautiful hijabs each day, has been so beautifully illustrated that young girls would simply relate themselves to the story.
Another very important message for young girls and boys alike, as given by the book is, “Remember, Don’t get angry, get smart!” I am pretty sure all young Muslimahs are going to love this sweet little book with a sweet little girl who chooses to become smart by seeking revenge yet maintaining peace and harmony.
