islam, namaz

With so much to do on my hands, I have noticed that while I am saying Salah, many thoughts appear in the mind relevant to the activity I was doing before that. Sometimes its related to teaching my kids, the activities I will do with them after I am done with Salah and so on.

During the entire day, we are highly engrossed in worldly activities and involved in socializing on social media websites. That takes away our time as well as diverts our attention from the more important aspects of life, from our due obligations we become astray and thoughts of those activities repeatedly flash in our minds when we are performing what is necessary and for what we will be accountable for, One day.

Saying Salah needs proper attention and complete concentration. It is important to know about the ways to increase concentration in Salah, for Salah is one of the most important pillars of Islam. Here are 10 ways to increase concentration in Salah:

1. Hear the Adhaan completely and get up straight away to perform Salah

Do not procrastinate. This is one rule which all Muslims must remember for delaying the prayer does not make sense at all! Allah Almighty has promised to give more rewards to a person who says Salah the earliest when its time is due than to the person who procrastinates Salah for no valid reason and just doesn’t get up.

A Companion of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) came to him one day and asked him “What is the thing that Allah (Subhan ahu Wa Ta’ala) loves the most?” Our Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) replied “The thing that Allah (Subhan ahu Wa Ta’ala) loves most is when his people pray Salah on time.”

Learn the meaning of the wordings of the Adhan and listen to it with complete concentration. The Adhan itself is a motivating factor for all of us as it says Come for Salah, Come for Success”. So to answer this beautiful call to prayer immediately is definitely going to bring abundant success in each step in this world and also in the Here After.

2. Recite Kalima after performing ablution

As you move towards doing ablution, keep this in mind that you are taking a step towards success. While doing ablution (wadhu), start with Bismillah. It has been acknowledged that it is good to recite the second Kalima Shahadah (I bear witness that there is no god except Allah, alone with no partner or associate, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah). Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has said, “There is no one among you who does wadhu and does it properly and does it well, then he says,” Ashhadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareekalah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasooluhu”, but the gates of Paradise will be opened to him and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes” (Sahi Muslim, al-Taharah, 345)

Reflect in the mind the very thought that Allah Is The Greatest and the Most Beneficient and Merciful and that the act of worship you are going to perform is the one that will take you to Jannah!

3. Confine yourself in a corner

If you have kids or other family members around you, there are chances that some of them may be talking and chatting out aloud, kids may be playing any games over the phone or just shouting noisily as they do and running from here to there, in such a case, you must confine yourself in a corner of a room away from all that racket.

For during Salah, your concentration will divert towards what your kids are doing or what your friends are talking about. This rule implies to Muslim women. For Muslim men, it is best that they rush to the local mosque to say Salah in Jamat (congregation) with all other fellow Muslim men.

4. Reflect upon your activities for a few minutes

Oh well, this is something I must do myself, for sure. Before you start Salah, reflect upon your work activities that you were doing or intend to do afterwards for a few minutes. Now reflect and ponder over what you are about to do. The importance of Salah and the fact that you are about to praise Allah Almighty, supplicate to Him and perform your obligatory duties towards HIm are all factors that will help you stick faithfully to Salah. Now start Salah with complete concentration without even thinking once of any other plans.

5. Understand the words of the Quran

If you know the meanings of the Arabic Scripture that you are reciting in the Quran, then you will be able to focus in a much better way and increase concentration. Learn how to understand the vocabulary of the Quran here and look out for a few apps for understanding Quran vocabulary here.

6. Learn to perform each step of the Salah properly

Take any Islamic course from a reputed institute or watch any tutorial online for guidance, but1297309246.png (300×202) learn how to perform Ruku and Sujood and other steps properly. While saying Salah, give utmost attention to doing those actions correctly and reciting the appropriate Verses required at each step for increased concentration in Salah.

7. Change the Quranic Verse in each unit of prayer

This also helps for saying the same Quranic Verse in each unit of prayer becomes more like a routine whereas deciding which Quranic Verses you will recite in each unit before starting Salah and then proceeding to make those recitations during Salah is better to increase concentration (I am referring to the Quranic Verse to be said after Surah Fatihah in each unit of prayer).

8. Imagine you are in front of the Ka’aba (The House of Allah)

Ahhhh… if you have been there for Umrah or Hajj, imagine during Salah that you are present in front of the Ka’aba in the Holy Mosque of Mecca. Thinking of that beautiful place in front of you really helps to focus attention in Salah.

9. Stay away from worldly desires

This is very very difficult, I know for the world we are living in, continuously arrests you in its desires. Try limiting your screen time and spend more time with your kids or indulge in your favorite activity or you can even take up on a hobby like gardening to while away your time with nature.

10. Make Dua

Keep supplicating and making Dua to Allah Subhan ahu Wa Ta’ala for forgiving your sins, making you one of those Muslims who always offer Salah regularly and attentively. Allah Subhan ahu Wa Ta’ala is All Merciful and He is always there to listen to our pleadings!

Dua is compulsory and you should attempt to supplicate through out the day, while you are working in the kitchen or just walking around. Make special supplications to Allah Almighty to enlighten your heart with Imaan and give you the strength to stay away from worldly desires and increase your concentration in Salah.
